I already knew from the start that I wanted to have some sort of cinematic cutscene in my portfolio.
I was first thinking about doing something with my character Björn who I used in my Unreal project. I had a really hard time coming up with something fun for him to do. That’s when I had to ask myself what it really was I wanted to acomplish with the cutscene.

I ended up with three important aspects I wanted to add: acting, something not human, but not an animal either and something silly.

I’ve already animated a human and an animal. Its time for something different! I’ve always loved stories about robots and aliens and other sci-fi and mystical things. If I had time I would have animated a robot AND an alien. But with our portfolio deadline coming up, I’d rather be safe than sorry. So one robot it is!

I do a lot of storyboarding in my freetime. So the fastest way for me to get an idea out is to make a quick animatic. This one might be a little rougher than I usually like. But with a pretty harsh deadline looming over my head I decided it was better to focus on the actual animation.

I’m pleased with how much I was able to push the final animation! There are many poses in the blocking phase alright. But they could definitely be more. I just did my best to exaggerate the poses and movement as much as possible. I think it turned out great!
