For this project I really wanted to kill two birds with one stone. I wanted to show off locomotion, creature and acting! So I suppose I actually killed three birds with this one.
I found this adorable little shiba inu rig in our schools rig library. And MAN I just couldn’t look at this little guy and NOT animate him!
When animating this fella I started with a pretty simple walk cycle. After being satisfied with the base I began adding motion trough animation layers. It was a great way to experiment and push certain actions without being destructive.
For the happy dog I really wanted to make him bouncy. I also gave him a stick so he had something to be happy about.
I had a whole lot of references when making this animation. You’d think that big and small dogs would move pretty similar since they’re y’know, both dogs. But no! So it was extremly helpful to have a couple of refrences to take notes from!
Aw man! Looks like the little dog lost his stick! Now he’s all sad!
When I started this animation, he was walking in the same speed as the happy dog. It did not look good, I tell you that.
After slowing him down and making his head hang low I think it looks a lot better!
Oh no! Who scared the dog?!
My original goal was to make an angry dog for this animation. I think him backing away is a lot more unique than another forward walking dog. So that’s what I went with instead!
